Frasershot Fashion Shoot on the East Coast Oct 2011

Post by Craig | November 23, 2011 | Blog | Comment

The team at Frasershot were recently commissioned by a footwear brand to produce a set of Fashion Photography Images for an Ad campaign and also some product photography in situ, unfortunately we were up against it from the start shooting a summer range in October in the UK but we love a challenge!!

So with a car full of lighting and lots of  strong coffee we headed out to the East coast very early. We had an apartment booked not far from the sea so the models could get changed over easily working with our stylist Agnes who did a fantastic job bringing the summer feeling to October through the power of clothing and props.  We had fantastic models to work with for this shoot, Julie Lowery whom we have worked with before and always does a great job in getting us the right shots!

We also hired a beach hut which was awesome and gave us a great base on the beach to keep all the kit and go through some of the shots.   Everything on the day was shot on the Hasselblad H3D 31 straight to card and all lighting was shot with the Profoto B2 and Proheads with reflector’s used direct on the subject.

Couple of shots below and one out-take with our model Julie Lowery and designer James Wells showing us how to pose or not?

And James and Julie towards the end of day, nearly time to go home!

This week Frasershot Photography have been working with one of our food clients supplying commercial photography for their new POS advertising campaign.  We shot aprox 7 dishes throughout the day but have added just the one to the blog for you to see.  The images were shot using the hasselblad on the 80mm lens and using 1 sidelight softbox and a 10 degree grid. Got home that evening after shooting and tasting curry all day and my lovely wife had cooked a Madras, Go figure?

New Zealand wine brand Cloudy Bay commission – Frasershot Studio

Post by Craig | September 28, 2011 | Blog | Comment

Wine brand Cloudy Bay commissioned Craig Fraser to shoot there latest promotion pushing the white wine brand and mussel sales in the UK.  We were to shoot the setup in Ipswich believe it or not and were forecast to have fairly average weather so Id be lying if I said I wasn’t a little nervous!

We had been given a fantastic hotel to work with who would prepare and lay on anything we needed. Initially  looking at shooting this in the restaurant with the boats in the background to give the right feel to the shot but with many obstacles in the way we realised we needed to be on a much more elevated position to get the right backdrop.

We booked out one of the hotel rooms on the 3rd floor and had a restaurant table setup in the window opening and dressed accordingly.  The set was to be very simple and clean to allow for necessary cropping and copy which was be overlaid for the promotion.

I used just two Profoto lights for the shots and a profoto B2 power pack, one light as a fill with a small softbox and the main light with a 5 degree grid to give me the Harsh lighting I was after. I used mirrors to fill harsh shadows on the mussels and silver card to lift them slightly, I also shot a second image with a mask behind the wine bottle and overlayed it in post production.

Please take a look at the finished shots and then the behind the scenes shot below that.

Thanks for reading.

Creative Flying Paper Shot produced at Frasershot Studios

Post by Craig | September 21, 2011 | Blog | 1 Comment

Frasershot were recently commissioned to produce a bespoke image showing paper flying out of a box, a great little project which required the patience of a saint!

We started off by setting the relevant colorama background which was a Storm Grey.  We assembled a boom across the set which we then suspended sheets of paper into position using a very fine fishing wire and after  a long time we had the pieces just about right. We then used a thicker stock card to have the curling sheets coming out of the box without falling flat.

Lighting consisted a three light setup using profoto D4 and Profoto refelectors and softbox and white card reflectors, also a piece of silver paper to throw more light into the paper sheets. And that was about it. Great fun and no layers involved in photoshop (for now)

The image will go through some more retouching and maybe some more creative work added later, but this is it as it leaves our gaff! be great to have some feedback..

Post by Craig | September 14, 2011 | Blog | Comment

As you may be aware here at Frasershot photography we have embraced the medium of film into our service structure, shooting mainly on the Canon DSLR’s and have bought in a fantastic team which works right through from concept to delivery of footage.  We have recently been working on a full media project encompassing stills photography and video combined.

Please take a look below at some of the behind the scenes images from the shoot. All images shot using the Canon 1dsmk3 using the 50mm 1.2 lens and graded using Adobe Lightroom. And the video footage is being captured on the Canon 5d, also using the IPad as a modern day clapper board!!

Looking forward to showing everyone the finished project on the blog and via our new video pages which will be added to the site in the next month or so.

Having just worked on a commission of work for the Northampton Saints I have posted an image for you to view with the trio, Stephen Myler, Noah Cato and James Downey. After asking them to stare straight into the lens with some attitude I couldn’t help but feel a little edgy!

Great guys and a wicked shoot, will post some of the finished edited shots in a couple of weeks time.

PhotoPro Magazine features My Desk

Post by Craig | August 22, 2011 | Blog | Comment

Photo Professional Magazine’s Sept 2011 edition has featured the workspace of Craig Fraser, Director at Frasershot Ltd.  A fun article showing the various work stations of Pro Photographers.

We would love to claim that his desk was always this immaculate however we did give it a clean but generally a fair representation of his desk.  Craig Admittedly had a couple of glasses of wine when he wrote the copy, mentioning that the wacom pad cut his post processing time down and enabled him to see his son more, but forgot to mention his wife. Whoops!!…
